How to Play Backrooms
You spawn alone in an endless office-scape: damp yellow wallpaper, humming fluorescent lights, moist carpet. The goal is simple to say and hard to do — keep finding the exits that lead you out of each level, deeper into the Backrooms.
- Move: W A S D (or arrow keys)
- Look: move the mouse — click the game once so it captures your pointer; press Esc to release it
- Goal: find the doorway or hatch marking each level's exit; walking through it takes you to the next level
- Sprint (if the port supports it): hold Shift
The version inside the list is one of several web ports — Backrooms 2D (code 1017) is also in the list, a top-down take on the same setting if the 3D one makes you dizzy.
Tips & Strategy
- Use the walls as a compass. Rooms repeat visually; picking one wall and following it keeps you circling the level instead of doubling back.
- Listen as much as you look. The buzz of the lights and any changes in ambient sound are how you notice you've crossed into a new zone — exits are usually quieter or darker.
- Exits hide at edges. Check where walls meet and behind pillars; the exit is rarely in the middle of an open room.
- Don't rush. There's no timer. Sprinting in panic is the fastest way to lose your bearings and walk the same four rooms forever.
